Shetland Pony

Shetland Ponies are known to people throughout the world, even if they don't know where Shetland is actually located. This Shetland pony was part of a larger herd found near Gulberwick.

It was originally asleep but woke when other ponies started to approach me, so knowing that some ponies ``laugh'' when waking I concentrated on this one and managed to get a couple of photos.

They have been on Shetland since the bronze age and have been used to pull carts carrying peat and coal for a number of years. Today you will find that most are used for riding especially by children. They do have a mind of their own and can be un- cooperative but are generally gentle and very intelligent.

Now you can buy this photo either as a 30x20 or 24x16 canvas print.
